Nashama Stud is situated in Temora, NSW, and consists of a small group of quality horses, all eligible to be registered as Arabian Stockhorses, whether they are purebred or derivative.

Nashama is an Arabic root word which means:-

"In humans - One who shows drive and initiative"
In horses - "One which responds quickly and positively to the rider's command"

"Nashama" was chosen for our colt, Nashama Ben Tahl, before we decided to register it as our prefix. Shama was named in honour of a friend, who is a Muslim woman of education, courage, drive and initiative who works who has a passion for human rights, no matter what the creed or culture!

Nashama Stud is situated in Temora, NSW, and consists of a small group of quality horses, all eligible to be registered as Arabian Stockhorses, whether they are purebred or derivative.

Nashama breeds Arabian Stockhorse in the 70-99% Crabbet range and is very proud to breed 'do-anything' horses. While the horses of our small stud are undoubtedly beautiful, Nashama has two mottoes for the stud:-

"Where good temperament and a place to put the saddle matter"
and
"A stud is only as good as it's geldings"

Although we seldom breed a horse, we strive to consistently produce first class foals from our mares. The horses are reared with mainly natural horsemanship methods and are chosen for their intelligence, stock sense, sensitivity and good temperament.

Our breeding animals are generally registered as purebred Arabians, however our aim is to breed Arabian Stockhorses so those geldings who show all of the above abilities and are considered capable of excelling in open company are generally registered as Arabian Stockhorses, whether their Arabian percentage is 25% or 100%. Indeed, Nashama Stud's Nashama Faran is Australia's first registered purebred Arabian Stockhorse. While we have been maligned in some sectors (we are the only stud registering purebred Arabian Stockhorses in Australia) and called 'anti-Arabian', we are amused anyone could have the view that paying one of our geldings the compliment of being considered in the class of some of Australia's best purebred and derivative Arabians could ever be considered detrimental to the breed or 'anti-Arabian'. These 'Arabian Stockhorses' carried Australians to war, then known as the Waler, and came here with the First Fleet. We have concluded there may be some of the green-eyed monster happening so have taken this denigration as a compliment.

Our Horses

Nashama Ben Tahl, at 75% Crabbet, was our first foal in 13 years, his predecessor Glen's partbred gelding, Rhydian, a Yourouk and Bahri grandson. Shama is Julia's boy, everyone who sees them together instantly realises he is.

2005 saw two more outstanding foals,
** Nashama Aslaan (ex M Belle). Aslaan is not only from one of Australia's strongest endurance families, this lovely young horse is show quality.
** Nashama Faran (ex Savannah Roylae) is by the pure Crabbet Stallion, Silver Somerio. Faran has been sold to Renee Taylor of Brisbane as a dressage prospect and is registered as an Arabian Stockhorse to maximise his performance opportunities.

We did not breed any foals in 2006. We concentrated on Shama, Faran and Aslaan.

In 2007, Melody gave us a fabulous colt by Silver Somerio, Zainal Ibn Somerio. Sadly, Prini slipped her foal by Nashama Ben Tahl.

All the horses are descended from classified, well performed Australian Stock Horses even though they are no longer registered with the ASHS. Horses that were dual registered in our pedigrees include Delos, Sarafire, Islam Banstand and Stonington Ann. Julia was a Riverina Junior Member in the very early days of the Australian Stock Horse Society.
