History of American Shorthair Cats
American Shorthair Cats arrived with the first white settlers in America as working cats who specialised in protecting grain stores from rodents. They were recognised by the Cat Fanciers Association as one of the first five American pedigrees but were originally known as the ‘Domestic Shorthair'. The name was changed in the 1960's to stress it's pedigree nature as this is a pedigree that consistently breeds true in terms of appearance, temperament and health.
